Why do couples leave Joy?
Couples leave Joy because it’s a great wedding website and a thin planner. Joy’s guest tools are among the best in the category (see our Joy review), but people hit these walls:
- No seating chart and no checklist. Neither appears in Joy’s help center or pricing page.
- Basic budget. Joy shows a simple tracker, and independent comparisons call it minimal.
- Paying partway through a task. Texting guests needs Messaging Plus, which Joy asks you to buy when you send your first text, per its help center. Some reviewers call this nickel-and-diming.
- Card fees on cash funds. Joy’s Venmo, PayPal and Cash App gifts are fee-free, but card gifts carry a Stripe fee paid by the guest (3.5% in Joy’s example), and each bank transfer costs you $1.70.
- Glitches. Couples on Reddit have posted “Do not use WithJoy” threads in 2025 and 2026, citing bugs and, in one case, no way to email only the guests who said yes to a specific event. Some registry returns come back as store credit instead of refunds.

The seating plan is drag-and-drop with round, square, rectangle and sweetheart tables, linked to RSVPs, with a separate plan for each event. The budget tracks planned, committed and paid amounts, several payments per expense, due-date alerts and multiple currencies. Tasks have due dates and can be assigned to your partner, and both of you get your own account. RSVP links are per party, with plus-ones, dietary needs, an optional password and reminder emails, and you can send them by email or WhatsApp. There are no ads in the app and no vendor marketplace.

Zola adds a budget tracker with payment reminders and a customizable month-by-month checklist to a free website, registry and guest list with per-event RSVPs. Card cash-fund fees are 2.5%, and you can choose to absorb them instead of your guests. 3. WeddingWire: switch to it if you want everything free, seating included
WeddingWire’s couple tools are all free: a seating chart synced to RSVPs, a budget with paid and pending amounts, a checklist and a website with password protection. 4. Minted: switch to it if design matters most
Minted’s free website uses artist themes that match its printed invitations, handles party RSVPs and private events, and offers a real custom domain for $15 a year. Like Joy, it has no seating, budget or checklist, so it’s a sideways move for planning. See our Minted review.

Appy Couple sells a website, a branded guest app (free for guests on iOS and Android) and digital invites for $99 a year or $12 a month. Private events mean guests only see what they’re invited to, and the app adds schedules and photo sharing. How do you move your guest list out of Joy?
Joy makes this easy: export all or selected guests to CSV at any time.
