Why do couples leave The Knot?
Couples leave The Knot because it has become a vendor directory with thinner planning tools attached. It’s still the biggest US marketplace, with about 200,000 vendors, and our review of The Knot says to use it for exactly that. As a planner, though, it has gaps:
- No budget tracker. The old Budgeter was retired; The Knot’s help center says saved budgets were viewable only until July 31, 2025. Budget Advisor estimates costs but doesn’t track what you’ve paid.
- No digital seating chart. It sells printed seating signs instead.
- No partner accounts. The help center suggests sharing one login.
- Guest messaging cut back. Several 2026 App Store reviews say custom texts and emails to guests were limited or removed, and others report freezes and guest lists not loading close to the wedding.
- Your details feed a lead business. When you message a vendor, The Knot Worldwide’s privacy policy says your information and message may be passed on so the vendor can contact you. The same policy allows sharing across its brands and says some disclosures may count as a “sale” under US state laws. In 2025 a US senator asked the FTC to look into vendor complaints about fake leads.

1. Amovera: switch to it if you want a real planner with no vendor marketplace
Amovera covers every planning tool The Knot dropped or never had, and it doesn’t pass your details to vendors because it has no marketplace at all. It costs $129 once, with a 60-day money-back guarantee.
You get a budget with categories, deposits and installments per expense, due-date alerts and multiple currencies; a drag-and-drop seating plan linked to RSVPs, with a separate plan per event; per-party RSVP links with plus-ones, dietary needs and reminders; and two accounts so both partners can edit at once. Guests, seating and budget export as CSV or PDF any time.
The trade-offs: no wedding website, no registry, no native app (it runs in your phone’s browser), and it launched in May 2026 with no independent reviews yet. 2. Zola: switch to it if you want a free all-in-one hub
Zola does most of what The Knot does for free, plus a budget tracker with payment reminders, a month-by-month checklist and one invited partner. Its guest list and per-event RSVPs are strong, and card cash-fund fees (2.5%) can be absorbed by you instead of your guests. The seating chart is free only up to 15 guests ($14.99 beyond that), there’s no Android app, and Zola also shares data with ad partners and has a vendor directory. 3. Joy: switch to it if the website and RSVPs are what you need
Joy has no vendor marketplace, so signing up doesn’t lead to vendor sales calls. Its free website, per-event RSVPs with custom questions and multi-admin logins (partner, parents, planner) are what many couples wanted from The Knot. It has no seating chart or checklist and only a basic budget, so pair it with a planner. See Joy vs The Knot.
4. WeddingWire: switch to it for better free tools, knowing it’s the same company
WeddingWire is the stronger toolkit of The Knot Worldwide’s two brands: a real seating chart synced to RSVPs, a budget that tracks paid versus pending, and one linked partner account, all free. It shares The Knot’s vendor network and similar privacy terms, so switching fixes the tools but not the marketing. Our WeddingWire review has the details.
5. Bridebook: switch to it if you’re planning in the UK
Bridebook is the UK’s biggest free planner, with a venue and supplier directory, checklist, budget, guest list with day and evening invites, and a partner login. Like The Knot, it’s paid for by the suppliers listed on it, and it has no seating chart. Outside the UK its directory is thin. See our Bridebook review.
How do you move your guest list out of The Knot?
Plan to rebuild it from a copy you control. We couldn’t find a guest list export documented in The Knot’s help center, so before you switch:
- Save what you can. Check your Guest List Manager for a download or print option. If there isn’t one, copy names, households, addresses and RSVP answers into a spreadsheet.
- Use your originals. If you imported guests from phone contacts or a spreadsheet, that source file is your cleanest starting point.
- Import into the new app. Amovera, Zola and Joy all accept spreadsheet imports; Joy takes CSV.
- Don’t delete the account too early. Deleting a Knot account removes your website, guest list, checklist and registry. Keep it until guests have moved to your new RSVP link and registry gifts are settled.
- Use a separate email for the new app if vendor follow-up is why you left. It’s the most repeated tip on Reddit wedding threads.

Are The Knot and WeddingWire the same company?
Yes. Both are brands of The Knot Worldwide, share the same vendor network, and their privacy policies allow data sharing within the group. Switching between them changes the tools you get but not who handles your data.
Does The Knot still have a budget tool?
Not an expense tracker. The Knot replaced its old Budgeter with Budget Advisor, which estimates local costs, and saved budgets stayed viewable only until July 31, 2025. To track deposits and payments you need another app or a spreadsheet.
Can I add my partner to The Knot?
