Wedding planning is a lead-generation industry. The biggest “free” apps are paid for by vendors who want to reach engaged couples, so signing up and sending a few inquiries can mean months of emails, calls and texts. We ranked apps on the privacy facts and scores in our dataset, quoting each company’s own policy.
Which wedding planning app doesn’t spam you?
Amovera, with a privacy score of 8/10, the highest among couple apps. It has no ads in the app, no vendor marketplace and no vendor lead-sharing. Its privacy policy says it does not sell personal information to data brokers or share guest lists and budgets with advertisers. You pay $129 once, which is how it makes money instead.
Two honest caveats. The same policy says Amovera’s own website uses Google Analytics, Meta Pixel and retargeting pixels to advertise Amovera elsewhere, so you may see its ads after visiting. And it’s new (launched May 2026), web-only, with no registry and no independent reviews yet. Account deletion is by contacting support. Full details in our Amovera review.
Who shares your details with vendors?
The apps with a vendor marketplace. When you contact a vendor through The Knot, its privacy policy says your information and the contents of your message may go to that vendor “so that the vendor may contact you.” WeddingWire’s policy uses nearly the same words, and its app prompts you to message several similar vendors at once. Zola shares your details with vendors when you contact or book them, and vendors pay Zola for leads. In the UK, Bridebook passes your details to a supplier when you send an enquiry, and paying venues can target couples by budget, year, season and weekday.
Joy, Minted, WedSites, Appy Couple and Amovera have no vendor marketplace, so there’s no lead to sell.
Are The Knot and WeddingWire the same company?
Yes. Both are brands of The Knot Worldwide, which also runs Bodas and Hitched. The Knot’s policy lets it disclose data within the TKWW family of companies, and WeddingWire’s says the same about the “WW family of companies.” Both allow sharing with partners for their own marketing, and The Knot says some disclosures may count as a “sale” under US state laws. Moving from one to the other to escape vendor email doesn’t change who holds your data. Vendors complain too: in 2025 a US senator asked the FTC to investigate alleged fake leads sold to vendors.

Which free app is most private?
Joy, for most couples. It’s free, has no vendor marketplace and has strong guest and RSVP tools. It isn’t ad-free in the data sense: its policy says it “sells” some identifiers and internet activity as California law defines it and shares them with ad networks, with an opt-out. Joy review.
Minted (5.5) is a free website with no vendor lead-sharing, but it’s a funnel for printed stationery and uses interest-based ads. After you close an account it keeps your data for a year before deleting it. Minted review.
What about WedSites and Appy Couple?
Both are paid and both skip vendor marketplaces. WedSites (7.5) promises not to sell personal data and shows no ads on published sites; its cookies let Google and Facebook show WedSites’ own ads. Plans are one-time ($39 to $199), but hosting ends after 6 to 24 months and the account is deleted within 12 months after that. WedSites review.
Appy Couple (7) says it doesn’t sell, trade or rent personal data, though it shares aggregated demographic data with partners and advertisers. It’s a $99/year subscription with no planning tools. Appy Couple review.
Should you use a separate email for wedding planning?
Yes, whichever app you pick. It’s the most repeated tip on Reddit: a 174-comment thread asking whether a separate wedding email is really necessary is dominated by people saying it is (thread), and a 730+ comment LifeProTips post says the same (thread).
How to set it up:
- Create one shared address (for example, a free Gmail) that both partners can log into.
- Use it for every app, vendor inquiry and registry.
- Use a Google Voice or similar number on quote forms if you don’t want calls on your own phone.
- Opt out of “sale or sharing” in each app’s privacy settings. The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola, Joy and Minted all offer an opt-out.
- After the wedding, forward what you need and stop checking it.
Can you plan privately and still get a registry and website?
Yes, by splitting the jobs. Plan the private parts (guest list, addresses, budget, seating) in a tool that doesn’t sell or share them, and use a free Joy or Zola registry and website for the guest-facing parts.
