Why do couples leave WeddingWire?
Couples rarely leave WeddingWire for its tools; they leave because of what happens to their inbox. WeddingWire is honestly the stronger planner of The Knot Worldwide’s two brands, with a free seating chart, budget and partner linking (see our WeddingWire review). The reasons people go:
- Vendor follow-up. When you message a vendor, WeddingWire’s privacy policy says your information and message may be shared so the vendor can contact you. The app also nudges you to message similar vendors in bulk, which multiplies the follow-up.
- Data sharing across a big group. The same policy allows sharing within the “WW family of companies”, with partners for their marketing, and with ad technology that can show you tailored ads on other sites. There’s a “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” opt-out, but you have to use it.
- No real cash fund. The registry mostly links to other stores and honeymoon funds such as Traveler’s Joy.
- Partner linking is partial. A linked partner shares the website, checklist, guest list, seating and budget, but not Vendor Manager or messages.
- Trust. WeddingWire’s Trustpilot score is 1.4 out of 5 from 2,856 reviews, driven mostly by vendors reporting expensive contracts and fake leads. Some couples also notice the iOS app isn’t built for iPad.

Where it’s stronger: the budget handles several payments per expense, due-date alerts and multiple currencies (WeddingWire’s budget planner doesn’t mention due dates or currencies). Both partners get their own account with real-time shared editing. Vendor management works without a marketplace: you add vendors you found yourself, track them from prospect to booked, upload quotes and contracts, and link them to the budget. Seating is drag-and-drop, linked to RSVPs, per event. Guests, seating and budget all export as CSV or PDF.

Joy has no vendor marketplace, so signing up doesn’t lead to sales calls. You get a free website, guest list with households and A/B tags, per-event RSVPs, digital invites and a universal registry with fee-free Venmo, PayPal and Cash App cash funds. 3. Zola: switch to it if you want a free all-in-one outside The Knot’s group
Zola covers website, registry with a native cash fund, guest list, budget and checklist for free. Its seating chart is free only up to 15 guests ($14.99 beyond), and there’s no Android app. Zola also runs a vendor directory and shares data with ad partners, so it’s not a privacy upgrade so much as a different company. How do you move your guest list out of WeddingWire?
Export the guest list and seating chart first, and copy the budget by hand.
- Export the guest list. WeddingWire’s Guest List Manager lets you export the list (it’s meant for sending to your stationer). Include meal and dietary choices.
- Export or print the seating chart as a chart or list, so you have your table layout for reference.
- Copy your budget. We found no budget export, so note categories, amounts paid and amounts pending in a spreadsheet.
- Import the guest file into the new app. Amovera, Joy and Zola all accept spreadsheet imports.
- Opt out before you go. Use the “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” link in the site footer, then reply to vendors you’ve decided against so the follow-up stops sooner.

Why do I get so many vendor emails after using WeddingWire?
Messaging a vendor passes your details and message to that vendor, and the app prompts you to message several similar vendors at once. Each of those can follow up. A separate wedding email address helps.

Yes. WeddingWire's guest list can be exported, for example to send to a stationer, and the seating chart can be printed, emailed or exported. We found no budget export, so copy your budget by hand.
