The best wedding budget app in 2026

Amovera has the most detailed wedding budget tracker: multiple payments per expense, due-date alerts, multi-currency and CSV/PDF export for a one-time $129. Zola is the best free budget app, with payment reminders and a tracker couples praise on Reddit. The Knot retired its expense-tracking Budgeter in 2025.

Most wedding apps give you a budget “tool” that is really a pie chart. What you need in month nine is different: which deposits are paid, which balances are due next week, and how far over you are. We ranked apps on the budget features and scores in our dataset, and on whether they track payments rather than just estimate costs.

Which wedding budget app is best?

Amovera, with a budget score of 9/10, the highest of any couple app we compared. Zola (7) is the best free one.

Amovera’s budget tracker has categories and subcategories, and each expense moves through planned, committed, partially paid and paid. The useful part for real weddings is multiple payments per expense: a venue with a deposit, a second installment and a final balance is one line with three payments, each with a due-date alert. It handles multiple currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD and more), links to vendor records, and exports to CSV or PDF. Two accounts are included, so both partners see the same numbers.

The trade-offs: $129 once (60-day refund), web-only with no native app, no registry or website, and no independent reviews yet since it launched in May 2026. Our Amovera review has the details.

Why do couples need to track payments, not just totals?

Because the overruns are in the details. Zola’s 2026 Wedding Spend Survey found that 69% of couples exceeded their initial budget and faced an average of $3,314 in unexpected expenses, about 9% of spend, with 75% hitting surprise fees. Money also comes from more places than it used to: Zola’s First Look Report says 71% of couples get financial help and 88% contribute themselves.

A total-only tool can tell you that you planned $36,000. It can’t tell you that three deposits are due the same week, or that the florist’s balance is still open. That’s the gap a real tracker fills.

What happened to The Knot’s budget tool?

The Knot retired it. Its help center says the old Budgeter was replaced with a tool “designed to help you understand wedding costs and set a budget,” and saved budgets stayed viewable only until July 31, 2025. The replacement, Budget Advisor, estimates local costs but doesn’t track what you’ve paid, which is why The Knot scores 2/10 for budget in our rubric. If you were using the old Budgeter, you need a new home for those numbers. See our alternatives to The Knot.

Joy is in a similar spot: it shows a simple tracker (category, budgeted, actual, paid), but independent comparisons call it minimal and it isn’t in Joy’s help-center overview. It scores 3.

Which free budget app is best: Zola or WeddingWire?

Zola, narrowly. Zola’s budget tool suggests allocations from your total, sends payment reminders and lets you upload contracts. A Reddit bride planning a May 2026 wedding praised it for separating upcoming from paid payments and letting her keep a custom vendor list (thread). It’s free, though Zola has no Android app, and its privacy policy says it shares personal information with advertising partners unless you opt out. Zola review.

WeddingWire (6) estimates category costs from your total, lets you add custom categories and line items, and tracks paid versus pending. Vendor prices from its Vendor Manager feed into the budget, which is handy. Due dates, currencies and budget export aren’t mentioned in its documentation. It’s owned by The Knot Worldwide and runs on vendor advertising. WeddingWire review.

Who should pick WedSites or Bridebook?

WedSites if you want a paid website and planning tools together. Its Pro plan ($199 once) includes a budget calculator with tracking, vendor payment reminders and budget export, alongside a checklist and seating. Hosting ends after 24 months, so export before then. WedSites review.

Bridebook if you’re planning in the UK. Its free budget auto-generates a breakdown from your total across four categories, shows estimated versus booked costs, and lets you note deposits and payments as free text. It’s tied to a supplier directory where paying venues get more visibility. Bridebook review.

Should you just use a spreadsheet?

Maybe. “We used excel” is the top answer in one of Reddit’s budget-app threads (thread), and spreadsheets are flexible, free and have no lock-in. Couples with a finance-minded partner often never need more.

A spreadsheet starts to strain when you have a dozen vendors with staggered payments, parents paying for specific categories, or a destination wedding priced in another currency. Then you’re building the reminders and exchange-rate columns yourself. If that sounds like a weekend project you’d enjoy, go for it. If not, an app with installments and alerts is cheaper than one missed deposit.

Tips for keeping a wedding budget honest

  • Put a line for “unexpected” in from day one. Zola’s $3,314 average is a reasonable starting number.
  • Record every payment with its due date, not just the contract total.
  • Note who is paying for what, so gifts from family don’t get double-counted.
  • Review the budget together once a month. Both partners should be able to open it.

Our pick

Use Amovera if you want a tracker that handles deposits, installments, due dates and currencies, and you’d rather pay once than see ads. Use Zola if you want the best free budget and are on iPhone. Every pick, in order

1

Amovera

Best for: Couples who want one calm, ad-free place for guests, RSVPs, seating and budget, especially for multi-event or multi-currency weddings, and would rather pay once than be marketed to.

8.8/10

Amovera is the pick if privacy and a fixed price matter more to you than a free tier: $129 once buys guest list, per-event RSVPs, drag-and-drop seating, a detailed budget tracker and partner collaboration with no ads or vendor spam. It is new and web-only, has no registry and no independent reviews yet, so lean on the 60-day refund to decide.

What we like

  • One payment of $129 covers every feature for good, with a 60-day no-questions refund, so there are no upsells to budget for.
  • No vendor marketplace and no lead-sharing: signing up does not put your email or phone number in front of caterers and photographers.
  • Strong multi-event support: each event (ceremony, rehearsal dinner, brunch) gets its own RSVPs, timeline and seating plan.

Watch out for

  • No native iOS or Android app; on your phone it runs in the browser only.
  • No gift registry, so you will need a separate registry service.
  • No free tier: you pay $129 upfront and rely on the 60-day refund to try it.

2

Zola

Best for: US couples on iPhone who want one free place for their website, registry, guest list and budget, and who plan to register for physical gifts.

6.7/10

Zola is the best free all-in-one choice for US couples on iPhone: the website, registry, guest list and budget tools work well together and cost nothing. Be ready to pay $14.99 for a seating chart over 15 guests, to pay extra for group texts, and for marketing email. There's no Android app.

4.9 on Apple App Store (97,659 ratings)

What we like

  • Website, registry, guest list, budget and checklist are free and all connected in one account.
  • Guest list and RSVPs are strong: per-event RSVPs, meal choices, a Contact Collector link for addresses, and CSV/Excel export.
  • 20% completion discount on unpurchased Zola registry items for six months after the wedding.

Watch out for

  • No Android app since January 2023, so Android couples plan in the mobile browser.
  • The seating chart is free only up to 15 guests ($14.99 to unlock) and, per Zola's help center, iOS-only.
  • Texting your whole guest list is a paid upgrade ($59.99–$79.99 in-app).
3

WeddingWire

Best for: Couples who want a free, all-in-one planner with a real seating chart and budget tracker, plus a large US vendor directory.

6.3/10

WeddingWire is the stronger planning toolkit of the two Knot Worldwide brands. Everything is free, the seating chart is real, the budget tracker works and you can link a partner account. The trade-offs are the same as The Knot's: vendor inquiries feed a lead-selling business, data is shared across the group and with ad partners, and vendors rate the company badly.

4.8 on Apple App Store (45,890 ratings)

What we like

  • Every planning tool is free, with no paid tier and no couple-side fees.
  • A proper drag-and-drop seating chart with table shapes and floor elements, synced to RSVPs, for several events.
  • Budget planner tracks paid vs pending and pulls in vendor prices from the Vendor Manager.

Watch out for

  • Messaging vendors shares your details, and the app nudges you to message similar vendors in bulk, which leads to more follow-up.
  • The privacy policy allows sharing within the company group, with marketing partners and with ad technology providers unless you opt out.
  • No native cash fund; registry is mostly linking to other stores.
4

WedSites

Best for: Organized couples who want a website, RSVPs and planning tools in one place for a single one-time payment and can live without an app.

7.1/10

WedSites is the best one-time-payment option if you want your website, guest list, RSVPs and planning tools together: $99 covers guests and RSVPs, $199 adds checklist, budget and seating. There is no free published site and no app, and hosting ends after 6 to 24 months, so check how long you need the site live before choosing a plan.

What we like

  • One-time pricing ($39, $99 or $199) with no subscription, and a 14-day money-back guarantee.
  • The $199 Pro plan combines website, guest list, RSVPs, checklist, budget, vendors, seating and timeline in one login.
  • Multi-event RSVPs with custom questions, meal and dietary tracking on the $99 Standard plan.

Watch out for

  • You can't publish for free; RSVP needs at least the $99 plan and planning tools need $199.
  • Hosting runs out after 6, 12 or 24 months; keeping the site up costs from $5/month.
  • No iOS or Android app.
5

Bridebook

Best for: UK couples who want a free all-in-one planner built around finding and booking a venue and suppliers.

6.6/10

Bridebook is the best free all-in-one pick for UK couples whose biggest job is finding a venue and suppliers: the directory, checklist, budget, guest list, RSVPs and website cost nothing. The trade-off is that suppliers pay for visibility, there is no seating chart, and some users report slowness and disruptive redesigns. Outside the UK, its directory is much less useful.

Price

Platforms
Web, iOS, Android
Rating
4.8 on App Store (10,139 ratings)

What we like

  • Completely free for couples: every planning tool, including the wedding website and RSVPs, costs nothing.
  • The UK venue and supplier directory is the main draw, with filters, prices and couple reviews; Bridebook says 1.9 million+ weddings have been planned on it.
  • Guest tools cover the UK basics well: day vs evening invites, plus-ones, dietary needs, per-event RSVPs and custom RSVP questions.

Watch out for

  • No seating chart tool; you export the guest list and do the table plan elsewhere.
  • Paid supplier promotion shapes what you see, and some couples feel the app is built to collect their details for suppliers.
  • Deposit tracking is a free-text notes field, not proper payment schedules or due-date reminders.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free wedding budget app?

Zola. Its free budget tool suggests allocations from your total, sends payment reminders and lets you upload contracts, and couples on Reddit like seeing upcoming versus paid payments. WeddingWire is a close free alternative that tracks paid versus pending and pulls prices from its vendor manager.

Does The Knot still have a budget tool?

Not an expense tracker. The Knot replaced its old Budgeter with Budget Advisor, which estimates local wedding costs but does not track what you have paid. Saved budgets in the old tool were viewable only until July 31, 2025.

How many couples go over their wedding budget?

According to Zola's 2026 Wedding Spend Survey of 720 couples, 69% exceeded their initial budget, and couples faced an average of $3,314 in unexpected expenses, about 9% of total spend.

Is a spreadsheet better than a wedding budget app?

A spreadsheet is free, flexible and easy to hand to a partner, which is why it is Reddit's most common answer. A dedicated app earns its place when you have many deposits and installments with due dates, several payers or more than one currency.
