A seating chart is the last big puzzle before the wedding, and it’s the one most “free” wedding apps skip or charge for. The Knot, Joy, Minted and Bridebook have no digital seating tool at all. Zola has one, but charges past 15 guests. So the real shortlist is short, and we ranked it on the seating features and scores in our app dataset.
Which wedding seating chart app is best overall?
Amovera, if you’re happy to pay once. Its seating planner scores 9/10 in our rubric, the highest of any couple-facing app, because it’s tied to the rest of your planning instead of sitting on its own.
According to its feature pages, you get a drag-and-drop floor plan with round, square, rectangle and sweetheart tables, an auto-build option to get a first draft, and a printable plan. The part that matters most is that seating is linked to RSVPs, so you seat the people who actually replied instead of re-typing names from another tool. Each event gets its own plan, so the rehearsal dinner and the reception don’t fight over one layout. Guest lists, seating and budget export as CSV or PDF at any time, which is how you get a clean list to your caterer or calligrapher.

What is the best free wedding seating chart app?
WeddingWire. It’s the free tool couples on Reddit name most often for “simple and free” seating (example thread, 2026), and the facts back that up. It scores 8/10 for seating in our rubric.
WeddingWire’s chart is a drag-and-drop floor plan with round or square tables, plus a dance floor and DJ booth you can place on the room. It syncs with the guest list, works for several events, and you can print, email or export it as a chart or a list. You can also link one partner account that shares the seating chart.
The catch is the business model. WeddingWire is owned by The Knot Worldwide and earns from vendor advertising. If you message vendors through it, its privacy policy says your information and message may be passed to them so they can contact you. Is Zola’s seating chart worth $14.99?
For iPhone couples already planning in Zola, probably yes; for everyone else, no. Zola’s chart has drag-and-drop tables, custom shapes, PDF and Excel export, and it pulls guests from your Zola list. But Zola’s help center says it’s free for up to 15 guests and lives in the iOS app, and the in-app purchase to add more guests is listed at $14.99.
Fifteen guests is about two tables, so nearly every wedding pays. And since Zola shut down its Android app on January 1, 2023, Android couples can’t use the chart at all according to that help center. A Reddit couple “living in Zola” only found out about the charge when they reached seating (thread). That’s why Zola scores 5.5 for seating despite having a decent tool. See our Zola review.
Where does WedSites fit?
WedSites is the pick if you also want a paid wedding website and planning tools under one one-time price. Seating is on its Pro plan ($199 once). It’s list-based drag-and-drop with named tables and color-coding by guest group, a print view and CSV export, but no visual table shapes and no place or escort cards. Should you skip the app and use sticky notes or a spreadsheet?
Plenty of couples do, and it’s a fair choice. Reddit’s seating threads are full of people “still using sticky notes on the floor” or a plain Excel sheet (thread), and one older thread says the venue’s pro tool, AllSeated, was harder than post-its (thread).
Low-tech wins when your guest list is final early and small. It loses when things change late. Every declined RSVP, dropped plus-one or new dietary note has to be copied by hand from your RSVP tool to your notes to the caterer’s list. An app that links seating to RSVPs removes that step, which is where most last-week seating mistakes come from.
How many tables do you need?
Start with the Reddit rule of thumb: 8 guests per 60-inch round, 10 per 72-inch round. The Knot’s 2026 Real Weddings Study puts the average guest count at 117; Zola’s 2026 First Look Report puts it at 145. That’s roughly 12 to 15 tables of 10, or 15 to 19 tables of 8, before a head or sweetheart table.
A few tips that save rework:
- Ask the venue which table sizes they own before you draw anything.
- Seat households together first, then fill gaps with friend groups.
- Leave one or two seats open per table until final RSVPs are in.
- Keep a single source of truth. If your RSVPs live in one app and your chart in another, export once, at the end.
