Which free guest list app is best?
Joy. It handles households, named or blank plus-ones and tags for A/B list, side or anything else you want. It has a Contact Collector for addresses, imports from CSV, and exports all or selected guests to CSV at any time. Partners, parents and a planner can each get their own admin login and edit at the same time, which is useful when two families are building one list. It’s free with unlimited guests, on web, iOS and Android.
Joy doesn’t pass your details to vendors because it has no marketplace, but its privacy policy says it “sells” some identifiers and browsing data as California law defines the term, with an opt-out. Joy review.
What is the easiest way to collect guest addresses?
A collection link, so guests type their own. Zola’s Contact Collector is the best known: you send one link, guests fill in their address, and it lands in your list. Zola also imports spreadsheets, offers AI import, and does free envelope addressing. Joy has its own Contact Collector, and Minted has an address-collection link that feeds its envelope printing and place cards. Appy Couple has an address collection tool as part of its subscription.
One caveat nobody mentions in the listicles: your guests’ addresses now sit with that company. Zola’s privacy policy says it occasionally gives its postal mailing list (customer names and postal addresses) to other companies for marketing. Minted, by contrast, says it does not “sell” or “share” your address book information for advertising under California law. The Knot (7) organizes guests by person and household, imports from phone contacts or spreadsheets, and tracks gifts and thank-you notes. We couldn’t verify a guest list export in its help center, it has no partner accounts, and several 2026 reviews report the guest list not loading in the app. A Reddit thread from 2021 named it the top pick for guest lists (thread), but it has lost ground since. Should the guest list live in a spreadsheet?
For the first draft, often yes. Reddit’s usual setup is a Google Sheet for the master list and an app for the guest-facing part, because a site lets guests RSVP online (thread). The spreadsheet is where you argue about the B list. The app is where RSVPs, addresses and meal choices come in.
The risk is two sources of truth. Once invitations go out, move the list into one tool, make that the master, and export from it when the stationer, caterer or venue asks. Round-tripping between a sheet and an app is where cousins get invited twice.
Tips for a guest list that doesn’t fall apart
- Group by household from the start; it decides how many invitations you send.
- Tag A and B lists, and add B guests only after A-list regrets come in.
- Record children and infants separately. Caterers and venues often count them differently.
